Our Story
Where a love of animals, nature, and lifelong learning come together in the heart of farm country in Erin, Ontario.
We’re Ashley and Evan, owners and operators of BeechStone Farm, alongside our daughter Addison.
Our journey began not in fields or stables, but on the water both of us grew up in the sport of sailing. Evan competed on the Canadian National Team, while Ashley coached athletes at the provincial and national levels and trained new coaches. We've always shared a passion for the outdoors (and a healthy bit of competition), but when we stepped back from high-performance sport to grow our careers and family, we found ourselves drawn to a quieter, more grounded kind of adventure.
What began as a small hobby farm quickly outgrew itself. In 2021, we made the move to Erin, settling into a beautiful 1868 stone house and establishing BeechStone Farm a place where we could live more intentionally, close to animals, fresh air, and homegrown food. Our first steps into farming began with a flock of chickens and a small garden. Before long, that grew to include ducks, goats, and Berkshire pigs — and that's when our true love for farm life really took hold. But nothing sealed the deal quite like falling head over heels for the sport of equestrian. Our love of horses started after taking a few lessons at a local stable and we were hooked. With Evan’s Ph.D. in Nutrition and Ashley’s career in nonprofit leadership, particularly in sport and community development, farming became a natural and fulfilling next chapter. Our daughter Addison has grown up with animals, hay in her hair, and joy in her cartwheels between farm chores and pony rides.
It all started with Mars a gentle 17hh Percheron cross who was everything a first horse should be teaching us the ropes of the hunter / jumper equestrian world. Our dream of giving him a forever home with rolling pastures (and maybe a few friends) became the foundation for what is now BeechStone Farm.
Today, our herd includes Mars, Whiskey, Poppy, Mac, Wellington, Thora, Tebow, and the ponies Breeze and Abby. We fondly remember Storm, our larger-than-life Percheron, and Josh, the sweetest donkey. We also share our land with donkeys, goats, alpacas, chickens, and a small herd of grass-fed cattle.BeechStone wouldn’t be complete without our pack of dogs by our side: Schooner, our wise and gentle senior; Ellie, our loyal Maremma Livestock Guardian who takes her job very seriously (with the occasional nap in the sun); Oats, our goofy and affectionate Newfoundland mix; and Beau, the newest pup full of curiosity and heart. We often remember Ralph, our Old English Sheepdog, who brought joy and laughter to our early farm days. Whether tagging along on chores, watching over the animals, or joining us for long walks through the pastures, our dogs are always part of the rhythm of life here.BeechStone Farm spans 98 acres of well-maintained paddocks, hay fields, crops, and forest.
We're a true family-run farm. While we do have some part-time help, you’ll most often find Evan (a.k.a. Dr. Hay) feeding the herd and tending the fields, while Ashley is brushing manes, handing out treats, and doting on every animal. Evan’s background in nutrition is woven into everything we do from custom pasture seeding to our cattle and horse feed programs. Our small beef herd and hens help us share thoughtfully raised, grass-fed food with our family and community.
We’re proud to call this place home and grateful to share it with the animals we love and the people who care as much as we do.
